Air Support Pursuit of Carjacking Suspect

Air Support Leads to Arrest of Carjacking Suspect –
On May 12, 2022, we were made aware that a carjacking suspect was in our jurisdiction. The vehicle was able to be tracked remotely, and both marked and unmarked units were deployed in an effort to apprehend the suspect.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Javier Caballero of Stockton, had previously been seen with a firearm and had been heard saying he would “not go back to jail.” Caballero, in the stolen vehicle, had already led another agency in a pursuit earlier in the day. With all of this in mind, air support was requested and, fortunately, an asset from a local agency was in a position to assist.

Antioch Carjacking Suspect Attempts To Elude CHP At Speeds Exceeding 160 MPH On Highway 4

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) –
A carjacking and home invasion suspect roared down Highway 4 at speeds exceeding 160 mph late Saturday night in an attempt to elude capture — a flight that was captured on California Highway Patrol airborne video.

It began after 11 p.m. in Antioch when officers attempted to stop a vehicle wanted in a carjacking. The suspect’s vehicle raced away from officers and headed at high speeds down Highway 4 toward Concord.

With a Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department helicopter and CHP Air-31 overhead, the suspect’s vehicle exited onto Willow Pass Road and raced into the abandoned Concord Naval Weapons Station.

**Rohnert Park Police Pursuit**
Yesterday morning the Rohnert Park Police Department was involved in a pursuit southbound on Highway 101. CHP – Marin took over the pursuit with CHP Airplane Air-31 as it crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and entered the City of San Francisco.

Multi-County Vehicle Pursuit
Marin CHP units terminated their involvement as CHP Air-31 followed from above. United States Park Police were able to stop the suspect in the City of San Francisco where he was arrested.

**Pursuit, Vallejo Police and CHP Air-37**
Late Friday evening, CHP Air-37 assisted the Vallejo Police Department with a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit traveled on several freeways, bridges, train tracks, and city streets as the driver fled through Vallejo.

Multi-County Vehicle Pursuit
With CHP Airplane 37 following from above, the Vallejo Police were able to follow at a safe distance. The suspect was taken into custody when he surrendered in a backyard over 30 minutes later.

This afternoon, the Sheriff’s Helicopter, “Henry-1” assisted in pursuing and capturing a felony theft suspect who had just stolen a generator from Friedman’s Home Improvement in Santa Rosa. The suspect was also known to have outstanding felony warrants in Marin County for theft.

**Vallejo car jacking pursuit**
Tonight Air 31 was requested by Vallejo Police Department​ to assist in looking for a recently car jacked pickup. While overhead searching for the vehicle the crew overheard Vallejo PD put out that Benicia Police Department was behind the pickup southbound on the Benicia Bridge.

Air 31 arrived overhead minutes later before the vehicle was “lit up”. Once Benicia PD hit the lights, the driver hit the gas… The driver fled northbound back over the bridge and westbound on 780 exiting at Glen Cove. Sunday night after clearing the detail at Levi’s Stadium with your San Francisco 49ers win over the other bay who we sent packing… Air 37 was quickly refueled, crews swapped and requested by CHP – Santa Rosa for a call involving donuts. Once overhead the crew realized the call was not about pastries but involved several vehicles participating in a sideshow. CHP – Santa Rosa, Sonoma Sheriff and Santa Rosa Police Department were involved with making vehicle stops, arrests and impounding vehicles for up to 30 days.

Sideshows are illegal… those who participate in them will be arrested with steep fines and suspensions of their drivers license.

Once again our crew was in the right place at the right time! Last night, it happened to be on the border of Riverside and Grand Terrace. While assisting a special detail with our airplane, our alert crew noticed a solo deputy from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in pursuit.

Even though we don’t currently have the radio frequencies for San Bernardino County, we were not about to let our deputy friend down, so we began following the pursuit with our handy L3 WESCAM MX-10 camera system. We got on the horn with our friends from the CHP – Inland Division and alerted them to the unfolding situation and asked them to give our mates over at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit a heads up.

**CHP Helicopter Lands to Assist in Arrest**
This morning shortly after 11:00 am, the Sacramento Police Department attempted to stop a stolen vehicle when the driver failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. CHP officers joined the chase as the suspect fled on I-80 from Sacramento.

After fleeing on several freeways, county roads, and city streets the suspect drove the wrong way on I-505 and fled on foot. Due to CHP Helicopter H-30 and CHP Airplane (Air-31) being overhead, ground CHP Officers were able to follow the suspect safe at a distance.
