**Vallejo car jacking pursuit**
Tonight Air 31 was requested by Vallejo Police Department​ to assist in looking for a recently car jacked pickup. While overhead searching for the vehicle the crew overheard Vallejo PD put out that Benicia Police Department was behind the pickup southbound on the Benicia Bridge.

Sunday night after clearing the detail at Levi’s Stadium with your San Francisco 49ers win over the other bay who we sent packing… Air 37 was quickly refueled, crews swapped and requested by CHP – Santa Rosa for a call involving donuts. Once overhead the crew realized the call was not about pastries but involved several vehicles participating in a sideshow. CHP – Santa Rosa, Sonoma Sheriff and Santa Rosa Police Department were involved with making vehicle stops, arrests and impounding vehicles for up to 30 days.

Sideshows are illegal… those who participate in them will be arrested with steep fines and suspensions of their drivers license.

Once again our crew was in the right place at the right time! Last night, it happened to be on the border of Riverside and Grand Terrace. While assisting a special detail with our airplane, our alert crew noticed a solo deputy from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in pursuit.

Even though we don’t currently have the radio frequencies for San Bernardino County, we were not about to let our deputy friend down, so we began following the pursuit with our handy L3 WESCAM MX-10 camera system. We got on the horn with our friends from the CHP – Inland Division and alerted them to the unfolding situation and asked them to give our mates over at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit a heads up.

**CHP Helicopter Lands to Assist in Arrest**
This morning shortly after 11:00 am, the Sacramento Police Department attempted to stop a stolen vehicle when the driver failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. CHP officers joined the chase as the suspect fled on I-80 from Sacramento.

After fleeing on several freeways, county roads, and city streets the suspect drove the wrong way on I-505 and fled on foot. Due to CHP Helicopter H-30 and CHP Airplane (Air-31) being overhead, ground CHP Officers were able to follow the suspect safe at a distance.

Late Friday night, CHP Air-37 was following a suspect who was fleeing sheriff deputies when he was cornered by a K9 team…what to do? Hide in a garbage can of course!

On July 21st we posted about a sideshow that one of our airplane crews located at the end of Lynch Road in Solano County. Last Tuesday, our crew was in court when the suspect was convicted for participating in a speed contest (23109 (c) vc). The 21 year old (adult) Elk Grove man was given a 30-day drivers license suspension along with a $850 fine.

Sideshows are illegal… those who participate in them will be arrested with steep fines and suspensions of their drivers license.

Last night, a T-Mobile store in Grass Valley was robbed. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office and CHP – Grass Valley Officers quickly responded to the area locating a fleeing vehicle. After a brief pursuit the suspects fled on foot, but CHP Airplane (Air-21) arrived overhead and located two of the suspects hiding nearby.

All available law enforcement personnel worked together to quickly apprehend all four suspects. They were booked into the Nevada County Jail for charges to include- Robbery, Evading Law Enforcement, Driving a Stolen Vehicle, and Multiple Outstanding Warrants.

On November 5, 2018, at approximately 10:29 AM, CHP – Golden Gate Division Air Operations Air 37 advised units that Alameda County Sheriff’s Office was in pursuit of a gray BMW with paper plates on westbound I-580 at Estudillo. CHP Officer Hammerson, who is assigned to the CHP – Castro Valley Area, was able to engage in the pursuit as the BMW entered northbound I-880 from Lewelling Boulevard, as Air 37 continued to call the pursuit.

The BMW exited at 66th Avenue, and CHP Motorcycle Officer Walters paralleled the BMW on northbound I-880 paralleling as the BMW travelled on the frontage road. Officer Walters observed the BMW attempt to re-enter northbound I-880. In doing so[…]

A group of bikers thought it would be a good idea to go and show off their biking skills on the Oakland/San Francisco Bay Bridge Sunday evening.

Riding dirt bikes and ATV vehicles, they rode across the bridge pulling stunts and harassing drivers. CHP ground units engaged only to follow the bikers because they knew they had an “eye in the sky” and did not want to create an even more dangerous situation with a chase.

CHP utilizing Air Bear aircraft were able to keep tracking the bikers as they dispersed and returned to their homes or hang-out spots and detain them. The bikers thought they had eluded police and never realized they were being followed.

The California Highway Patrol has eyes for speeders where most people wouldn’t think to look. That direction is up.

“Often times, people don’t even know we are up here,” CHP Flight Officer Troy Marks said. “We cover 13 counties north and south of Sacramento.”

The plane’s supplied by Air Bear Aero are equipped with an onboard camera and GPS system that allows officers to record, check and verify the speed of vehicles multiple times. Cruising at about 4000 feet, CHP’s sophisticated plane can see it all. It’s also equipped with a night vision camera that can zoom into a vehicle from four miles away.

In their recent pursuit of covering and surveying the Oroville dam incident the California Highway Patrol has been utilizing Air Bear supplied mission ready aircraft to give them a bird’s eye view of the entire situation. It gives the CHP a clear and defined picture of the situation at large and the ability to continually support and assess the situation 24 hours a day. Air-21 and Air-31 provided constant aerial intelligence over the Lake Oroville Dam breach.

Recently, the Valley Division of the California Highway Patrol has taken to the skies, using a new plane, which has given them a bird’s eye view.

Officers said it is a new generation of police plane: The GippsAero CHP unit Air-21.

“This is high tech. We’ve got all the latest equipment, camera equipment, camera system,” CHP Flight Officer Troy Marks said.

Marks said that military-grade camera system allows him to zoom down so he can see the make, model, color and even license plate of any vehicle on the road, from as high as 3,000 feet.
